Kenya Safaris

The Masai Mara, elephants below Kilimanjaro at Amboseli, flamingo lakes in the Rift Valley and white beaches on the Indian Ocean.

Kenya is the classic safari country. The Masai Mara is the northern end of the Serengeti ecosystem, and from July to October the Great Migration crosses the Mara River here. Amboseli has some of Africa's largest elephant herds, with Kilimanjaro rising behind them.

Further north, Samburu has animals found nowhere else in Kenya's parks, such as the reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra, and Ol Pejeta protects black and white rhinos. Safaris start in Nairobi and end there or on the coast, at Diani Beach or on the old Swahili island of Lamu.

Best time to go

June to October is dry and best for game viewing, with the migration in the Masai Mara from about July to October. January and February are also good. The long rains fall from late March to May.
