Overview

Explore the rich history of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has kept much of its original charm.

Every itinerary can be customised, with budget, mid-range or luxury accommodation.

Itinerary

  1. Stop 1

Old Slave Market and Anglican cathedral

The walk starts at the site of the former slave market, now the Anglican cathedral, where a monument recalls the people who were sold here.

  2. Stop 2

    City Market and fish auction

Stroll through the narrow streets to the market for fresh produce and fruit, and watch the fish auction.

  3. Stop 3

    Landmarks of the old town

The Palace Museum, House of Wonders (Bait-al-ajab), Old Fort, Tippu Tip's House, Freddie Mercury's house, Peace Memorial and Natural History Museum.

  4. Stop 4

    Shopping and Forodhani Gardens

Time for souvenirs, spices and crafts, and for Forodhani Gardens, where the evening food market serves grilled seafood and Zanzibari snacks. You are then taken back to your hotel.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a tailor-made safari?

Yes. Our consultants build safaris around your interests and budget, including for families, honeymooners and professional photographers.

How big are the groups?

Small. Groups are usually 1 to 7 guests, occasionally up to a maximum of 21. Every guest has a window seat, and we recommend swapping seats each day.

What food can I expect?

Lodges usually serve buffet meals prepared to western tastes with some local dishes, and our camp chefs cook fresh food on camping safaris. Vegetarian and diabetic meals can be arranged with advance notice.

Which vaccinations do I need?

Please consult your doctor or travel clinic well before departure. Entry to Tanzania minimally requires proof of yellow fever vaccination and anti-malarial medication.

What if the safari vehicle breaks down?

We send a rescue vehicle within 2 to 4 hours, depending on your location, and your guide works to make up the lost time. If needed, a flying-doctors evacuation (on request) or a transfer to a nearby lodge can be arranged.
