There is no bad time to visit Tanzania, but the best months depend on what you want to do.
Safari in the north
June to October is the dry season and the easiest time for game viewing. January and February are good for the calving season in the southern Serengeti. The long rains in April and May mean green landscapes, fewer visitors and lower rates.
The Great Migration
Calving is usually from January to March in the south. River crossings in the north are usually seen between July and October. See our Great Migration page for the full year.
Kilimanjaro
The main dry seasons are January to early March and June to October. The mountain can be climbed all year.
Zanzibar and the coast
June to October and December to February are the driest and most pleasant months. The heavy rains from March to May are best avoided on the coast.
The southern circuit
Nyerere and Ruaha are at their best from June to November. Some camps close in April and May.
